the details:
Welcome! My name is Carissa Marques, founder and operator of The Indie Popsicle. What started as a blog when I was in high school has since evolved into a multiplatform creative outlet for me to share interviews with musicians and creatives, my written work, and pictures. I’ve always had a love for writing, and thanks to Spinnaker Media, the University of North Florida’s student-run news station, I was able to get involved in their radio department that changed the trajectory of my life.
From there, I knew I had to always work in or alongside music. I got my bachelor of science in communication with a concentration in public relations (PR). I’ve since worked at a Jacksonville-based marketing & advertising agency as their assistant PR & communications manager. My work spans across various fields including arts & culture, education, housing & real estate development, and more. Since September 2022, I’ve been a contributing writer to the Jacksonville Music Experience (JME), part of Northeast Florida’s NPR Station, WJCT Public Media.
In 2023, I got involved with the Winterland Music Outreach Foundation, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization run by working musicians eager for sustainability and equality within the music industry. Through their music festival and concerts, I’ve served as a volunteer and vendor coordinator, and point-of contact, managing everything from load-in to ticket sales, merch and riders.
Whether you’re looking for PR services, management, event coordinating, brand building for your band, or another staff writer - I’ve come to learn the balance between creative & corporate communications.
Thank you for stopping by, and I’m looking forward to connecting!
